Lymphocyte Immunization Therapy (LIT)

What is Lymphocyte Immunization Therapy (LIT)?

Lymphocyte Immunization Therapy or LIT is a procedure whereby white blood cells from the prospective father are injected into the skin of the prospective mother to prepare the maternal immune system for pregnancy. Because pregnancy tissues are the product of both the mothers as well as the father's genes, LIT assists the mothers immune system in the development of immunologic tolerance to the genetically foreign pregnancy tissues. LIT is the treatment for those with low Leukocyte antibodies. When a pregnant woman has a low LAT score (meaning: low Leukocyte antibodies), her antibodies do not recognize the protein from the father of the baby. An embryo's protein is half from the mother and half from the father. For these antibodies, the father's protein is considered foreign bodies. The antibodies "attack" these foreign bodies, thus resulting to pregnancy loss.

In Dr. Guinto's example, if a person is allergic to grass, in order for her to become immune to grass, small doses of grass is introduced to her system. Much like with LIT, since the mother's antibodies seem "allergic" to the father's protein, white blood cells from the father will be injected to the mother. After several LIT, the LAT score is expected to be higher.

Dr. Gloria showed me a nice drawing of how LIT works, but I can't see a similar image in the Internet. I'll just describe it here as much as I can.

Imagine that the mother's protein is square shaped while the father's is a triangle. The mother's antibody is shaped like a stick figure. The legs of the stick figure will attach to proteins with a triangular shape (meaning: the antibodies will attach and attack the father's protein.). To prevent it from happening, LIT will create a protective layer to the father's protein to make it square shape. The antibodies will now recognize the father's protein as a protein of the mother, making the baby safe.

Here are the flyers which Dr. Gloria gave me.
